Based on an original idea by Glyn Maxwell, Best Day Ever was developed by Glyn and Hannah Maxwell - a classic uncle-niece creative collaboration.

A SHORT HISTORY OF BEST DAY EVER

Best Day Ever been a labour of love for us since 2018. We’ve tested and tweaked it over and over. With our family, friends, colleagues, school pals. At a canalside flat in Islington, a youth hostel in Todmorden, a firelit Georgian manor in Yorkshire, a kitchen in Stevenage, a vineyard terrace in Tuscany and a disused mortuary in Lewisham (Hannah’s property guardianship!)

We piloted some live show versions.

These took place at Camden People’s Theatre and Boulevard Theatre Soho and were hosted by Hannah. A rolling roster of players gave some very special guests their Best Day Ever – including BAFTA-nominated actor Jon Pointing, writer-director ShayShay Konno, novelist Kate Davies, Coronation Street star Chris Harper, and drag icon Ginger Johnson. These were recorded and released as podcasts – and still lurking about on Soundcloud!

It’s been a stop-start kind of journey.

Covid certainly didn’t help, arresting our momentum just a month after we gave Poet Laureate Simon Armitage his Best Day Ever. (Our recording equipment turned out to be broken that day, so we were feeling pretty disheartened anyway, global pandemic notwithstanding).

During lockdown, we hosted DIY Zoom versions of the game every Sunday night. Not only was it a raucously cheery way to spend those “unprecedented” evenings, but there was something profoundly comforting about imagining these silly activities with our friends and wider community who we hadn’t seen in so long.

More recently, it’s often been the Best Backburner Ever whilst we cracked on with other projects. But now we’ve got a little bit of moolah behind us and are ready to follow through with our dream of bringing Best Day Ever to the world.
